The following are the images from the Georgian Bay Islands in the Fall gallery. If you would rather see the slide show version (which requires Macromedia's Flash version 7 or higher), please click on show me the slide show.

Barrie, Ontario is located on the shores of Georgian Bay, a large bay beside Lake Huron. The islands are very typical of the Canadian Shield in that they are very rocky, and generally covered, as much as the presence of soil permits, with deep boreal forests. In the fall, the deciduous trees in these woods, like trees everywhere in the fall, turn a range of brilliant oranges, yellows and reds. The colors are rich and vibrant, and a pleasure for all that get a chance to see this area at this time of year.

The following images from the Georgian Bay Islands near Barrie, Ontario in the Fall were all taken with a Kodak DCS265 digital camera, a point and shoot, 1.7 megapixel camera.

georgian bay islands back-roads

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - This roadway is in the general area of Barrie and is typical of small, back-road everywhere in the fall

georgian bay islands forest

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - The forests are in the middle of their fall routine of changing colors and then, just as quickly, losing their leaves to the winds

georgian bay islands meadow

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - Meadows and other breaks in the woods become home to many animal species such as deer.

georgian bay islands trail to the bay

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - Hiking trails crisscross the area, though none of them are ever crowded. On this day we only saw three others as we strolled along enjoying the scenes and smells of the forest

georgian bay islands ponds and lakes

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - Like much of the region, ponds and small lakes are everywhere. The fall is a great time to visit as this would be full of mosquitoes in the hot, humid summer months

georgian bay islands rocky shoreline

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - The shoreline is consistent, rocks, rocks, and more rocks. This makes hiking very easy and pleasant for all levels of fitness

georgian bay islands flooded rocky shore

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - In stormy conditions, the waves wash over the edges and flood much of the rocky shorelines

georgian bay islands rock textures

Georgian Bay Islands in Fall - The rocky shore is itself quite an attraction with the tremendous textures and variety of interesting shapes. Enough to keep a visitor coming back year after year

The End
