The following are the images from the Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands gallery. If you would rather see the slide show version (which requires Macromedia's Flash version 7 or higher), please click on show me the slide show.

The following images from various locations in Gros Morne - Tablelands were all taken with a Canon 20D Digital SLR camera , an 8 megapixel camera utilizing a variety of Canon and 3rd party lenses.

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - The first view of the Tablelands is nothing surprising, just flat-topped yellowish stone mountains. However, their story goes much deeper

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - These mountains (or hills for those from the Rockies) keep areas of snow well into the summer months - this was shot in late June

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - The rock itself is actually part of the earth's mantle, exposed to the surface, one of very few places in the world

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - The mantle is usually buried 16 kilometers below the surface. That's what makes this particular area so unusual

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - Because of this rarity of circumstance, Gros Morne has been designated by the United Nations in 1987 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - The area is a region of contradictions, face one direction and you see miles of grassy hillsides with large ponds

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - Face the opposite direction and you see hillsides of endless yellow rock, almost desert-like in its appearance

Gros Morne National Park, Newfoundland - Tablelands - This mountain range is actually the northern extremity of the Adirondack Mountains that run parallel to the north-eastern coast of the United States
