Where Are We Going

Algonquin Provincial Park is the jewel in the crown of the Ontario provincial park system. The park was originally formed in 1893 to protect the forests and the watershed of five major rivers that flow from the Ontario highlands and to protect the wildlife that lives there.

The park has gained its reputation for being Ontario's pride and joy from years of repeat visitors from around the world. Once you have been here, you will understand why. The mixtures of the brilliant fall colours, the lush vegetation, the sparkling rivers and lakes, the well maintained network of hiking trails have all combined to make this park special.

What Are We Going to Do

We will first meet for supper at our accommodations in the town of Dwight, just west of the park's west gate. During this first meal together, we will get to know each other, learn of each other's interests and goals for the week and discuss some of the opportunities that await us for the rest of the week.

During the week, we will hike most of the trails available to us, stopping as frequently as the group wishes to engage the beauty of this veritable garden of colour. While we will be at the end of the fall colours, we will focus our photographic opportunities that come from fallen leaves, and from forests that have lost much of their foliage providing a clearer view inside the woods. The variety of animals will also be sought and captured by our cameras, thus expanding the workshop from strictly a landscape experience to a fuller, nature/landscape discovery. On the last evening of our workshop, we'll enjoy our final supper together reminiscing the weeks adventure and talking of future adventures.

Specifically, our itinerary will involve an evening of supper and sharing of ideas, five full days of shooting and then a goodbye breakfast at the end.

October 15, 2006 - Day 1
We will meet for supper at the motel restaurant where we will get to know each other. We will also exchange ideas on what we are specifically looking to get from the workshop and the experience. this will give us all a better understanding of our fellow attendees and our respective interests.

October 16-20, 2006 - Days 2 through 6
We will plan on hiking several short trails or one longer trail each day. We will explore the ecology and flora and fauna of each trail while staying alert for the memorable landscape and scenic shots that present themselves around each bend. We will start after breakfast each morning unless, as a group, we all want to get a Sunrise start at a particular location. The days will be spent on the trails and we'll stop for lunch when the opportunity presents itself. The days will be full as we will only stop when we either lose the light to the fresh evenings that descend on the park or until we get hungry enough for supper. During supper, we will review the day's opportunities and finalize the plans for the next day's adventure. If time permits, we will also have impromptu screenings of your work with group critique and suggestions.

October 21, 2006 - Day 7
We will all meet for our last breakfast together. We will review what we accomplished and discuss the week of shooting. Then we'll leave the workshop behind after hopefully gaining new skills and insight.

What Does It Cost

The cost of the workshop will be $1700.00 Cdn for each photographer in attendance.

What is included in the Algonquin Park in the Fall Workshop:
The cost of the workshop provides five full days of shooting with the workshop leader, Michael J Eva. In addition, there will be reviews and critiques of the participant's work along with suggestions for changes in the shots taken. Also included is the accommodation at the motel for six nights (Sunday night through to and including Friday night). The accommodation is in comfortable but simple rooms where each participant will have their own room. There is no "single supplement" for this offering. Instead, those wishing to bring along a loved one can do so for no additional accommodation cost. However, the loved one cannot participate in workshop outings or other activities. In the event that the loved one does wish to participate as a full attendee of the workshop, a discount will be considered assuming they share the same room. Finally, transportation during the workshop will be provided by a mutual car pooling arrangement by the participants. There should be no more than two vehicles involved, including my own, since the workshop is limited to six participants. Those willing to act as drivers for this car pooling should identify themselves and they will be compensated after the workshop is completed for the cost of the gas only. However, if you wish to use your own vehicle and not participate in the car pooling arrangements, you are welcome to do so at your own expense. This avoids the need for rental vans and thus keeps the costs to a minimum. The park entrance fees will be paid on behalf of the participants

What is not included in the Algonquin Park Workshop:
The cost of the workshop does not include the costs of meals or other incidentals. The participants will provide all their own equipment (photographic or electronic) for the duration of the workshop. Transportation to and from the base location of the workshop is the responsibility of the participants. Any insurance the participants deem necessary for the protection of themselves and/or their equipment is the sole responsibility of the participants.

Maximum Number of Participants

To ensure that the experience is as individual as possible, the workshop will be limited to six participants. Considering this limit, it is best, once you have decided to join us, that you sign up as early as possible. These workshops can and do sell out. We would hate for you to miss the opportunity to attend this offering.
