Would it sound too cliché if we said "you"? Well the truth of the matter is that it is people just like you that attend and benefit from photographic workshops. People that take the time to review photography web sites like ours are generally interested in doing more with their digital or film cameras than just taking birthday party snapshots.
Our workshops are designed and available to anyone interested in Photography. Having said that, there will be some workshops tailored to the more advanced photographer where we will screen participants to ensure similar skill levels. The reason for this is that the photographer with weaker skills may feel left out amongst a group of advanced photographers. Also, this will ensure the more advanced photographer benefits from sharing with others at a high skill level. We invite participants with either film or digital cameras remembering that only those shooting digital will be able to share their shots during group critique sessions. Of course, the critique sessions will be open to all regardless.
Perhaps you got a new digital SLR for a special purpose or a great film SLR to continue a favorite hobby. Maybe you just got a new point-and-shoot camera as a gift and want to learn how to use it properly. Possible you have been an avid photographer for years and you just want to move to the next level of improvement. It might even be that you just want to spend time with a group of other avid landscape and scenic photographers to pick up that elusive perspective.
The best way to answer this question is probably to describe a typical day while on a workshop. While the days will be long, we also believe they will be fruitful and beneficial to all.
The day will start early to take advantage of the morning sunrise. Therefore time will obviously depend on time of year, where we are, and how far we need to travel from the accommodations to our morning's shoot location. We will spend up to a couple of hours on location to ensure that all have a chance to take photographs, ask one-on-one questions and enjoy the opportunity without being rushed.
We will then head to an appropriate restaurant for breakfast and discussion on the morning's location. Then, we will head towards our next location, be that a single spot or a tour through the area looking for opportunities for great photography. We will most likely enjoy box lunches during this part of our day so as not to need to stop for too long and lose valuable time. By mid afternoon, we will be back at our accommodations for a break. During this time, there may be a critique session for those interested in hearing what others have to say about their work. These critiques will be constructive and will help those providing samples of their previous days work to truly learn how they could have improved their shots.
Again, depending on time of year, where we are, distances that need to be covered and weather forecasts, we will plan our sunset outing. Supper will either be before or after the shoot, depending on timing. We will head to the sunset location and setup for terrific red skies and warm colors that bring out the best in photographers and photographs alike. After sunset, we will head back to our accommodations to end the day and get some sleep. Tomorrow, we'll start all over again.
Keep in mind, nobody is going to drag you out of bed if you wanted to take some time by yourself, but it would be a shame to miss out on some great times.
There are several reasons why you should want to attend a quality workshop. First and foremost is the opportunity to take your photography skills to a new, higher level. This is accomplished by sharing time and effort with others as well as the workshop hosts. In addition to the the photographers directly associated with this site, we also hope to invite "guest Photographers" to join us and provide added insight for the the photo opportunities our locations present us.
Along with improving your skill is of course the opportunity to create better shots than you may have settled for if you weren't in a group setting. Perhaps we, or another of our attendees can help you to see things that normally wouldn't catch your eye.
Being able to ask questions of us will allow us to give answers to your questions of a technical or artistic nature. While we cannot provide specific support for all models of cameras, we can provide help with photography with an eye towards "seeing" landscape and scenic opportunities.
Certainly not the end of the list as we could go on and on, but finally we'll take you to beautiful natural shooting locations that perhaps you wouldn't find alone or would travel to by yourself. This alone will present scenic prospects for great photographs and even great stories of the adventure itself.
We host workshops year round. There is no "season" for workshops in our opinion. Different locations have different advantages at different times of the year. What we try to do is to pick the time (or times) of year when a particular location presents itself best. This may mean a workshop somewhere in northern New England or eastern Canada in the fall to highlight the fall colors. Perhaps we'll offer a workshop in the American southwest in the late winter or early spring to avoid the summer heat. A spring trip to the Rockies may be ideal to catch the meadow wildflowers. Summer in Newfoundland might be the right time to catch massive icebergs off-shore as they float by to warmer waters and their own oblivion. For specific options and locations, be sure to check our Workshop Announcements page.
We will go where the opportunities for great scenic and landscape photography is best. We will try a variety of locations throughout Canada and the United States. On occasion, we will venture further away as the chance presents itself and as the interest expresses itself. As written earlier, for specific locations, check out our Workshop Announcements page.
First, we recommend that you check out the Workshop Participation Conditions page to find the particulars of attending our workshops. Here you will find the general rules and regulations associated with our workshop offerings such as cancellation policy, what's generally included and what isn't. You'll also find information concerning responsibilities and liabilities for both Scenic Sensations and yourself should you sign up for one of our workshops.
Then, if you are interested in attending a workshop, check out specifically what we have to offer and see if we have an adventure that's right for you.
Finally, dust off your equipment, get your stuff ready, pack your bags and enjoy an adventure with us.
